Rob Wood and his son Tommy Wood

Rob wood has been fishing the dam since 2003 in conjunction with his offshore game and reef chartering Business.
He is 47 years old and has years of fishing experience to draw from.
He now specializes in Barramundi fishing at Lake Monduran and continues to fish the waters off Fraser Island for large GT’s Marlin and Sailfish and light and heavy tackle fishing.
In 2008 he fished in the ABT barra event at Lake Monduran with good friend Paul Mackay and they came third overall in the team’s event.
2008 was a great year for Rob for after years of being the runners up at the Hervey Bay Game Fish Clubs annual game fish tournament he won the tournament on his boat the Watchtower.
2009 seen Rob Wood as Champion Hervey Bay Angler and his Boat WatchTower second overall. Rob and his team did really well this year tagging some three blue marlin fishing heavy tackle off Fraser Island.
My son Tommy is my main inspiration with the tournament barra fishing and in 2009 we fished our first tournaments together. He loves all the hype around the ABTand the AFC and is a big fan of the Taylor Brothers, Dan Grech,Jason Willhelm and Mathew Mott
Tommy is no stranger to fishing catching his first marlin at the age of six and his current stand on Barramundi this year is a total of 13 all caught casting soft plastic lures and he just broke his old PB of 106cm while his new PB is 120cm caught out of a hobie kayak this year while filming with The Fishing Australia Program.
Tommy is currently up to 46 barra (who's counting only him) 10/3/2011
We fished the ABT in 2009 starting at Teemburra I didn't do that well jumping some 9 fish in one session off not happy to say the least. Tommy did very well at Teemburra for his first tournament coming 22nd overall with the Gin Gin Hotel Team coming 27th overall.
Tommy and I went on to fish Peter Faust where I came 18th and tommy came 19th with out team coming tenth overall.
I went on to fish the rest of the tour With Ben Durkin as Tommy has to go to school some time we didn't do that great but we managed a tenth place at Awoonga and did ok at Lake monduran with the high light for me catching a metre plus barra first cast of the day at Lake Monduran.
2009 saw Rob Wood placed 42nd on the ABT ranking Tommy Wood placed 79th and Ben Durkin placed 113th.
Overall Team anglers of the year seen team Gin Gin hotel ranked 10th
Tommy Wood also had done well this year fishing with Jason Ehrlich coming second in the teams event at the Berkley Monduran Barra Trophy Round. Tom also went onto be junior champion and catch the first fish of the tournament.
We had a great year 2009 fishing with some great people making some great freinds and hooking some huge barra.
2009 biggest barra was a 129cm fish for one of customers and we also put many othe customers onto fish over 120 cm.
The average fish size in 2009 was 106cm and we caught many between 110 to 120cm and surprisingly we caught just as many above the 120cm mark.
2010 has been a tough start with monsoonal conditions raising the dam water levels to some 80% capacity which made fishing tougher at start but as we move into summer the weed beds are emerging producing probably one of the best edge bites seen at Lake Monduran yet.
Already this year we have caught a whopping 128cm fish.
This year ended with cyclones and floods and has over flowed the dam.The fishing is tough to say the least.
We have postphoned most charters in Jan and Feb 2010 as the fishing is disasterous.
We have started fishing again in March 2010 offering the best fishing experience we can to our customers.
This year I fished the ABT and came 16th overall.
Hoping to do better in 2011.
Once again I enjoyed the great comeraderary on the ABT tour making new friends and enjoyed catching up with old ones.
Great to be chartering and catching fish again.
